YIKES! HOW CAN I PLAY BOTH HANDS AT THE SAME TIME?

(A Plan for Learning New Songs)

Now that you know how to play a melody with your right hand and some chords with your left hand, you are ready to start learning more and more songs.

Lots of kids find it helpful to have a plan of action to follow when tackling a new song. Here is a suggested plan:

1. Look at the chord symbols in your new song. Are there any chords that you don’t already know? If so, check the chord charts and try playing them a few times.

2. Look at the right-hand notes on the treble clef staff. Write the letter names above the notes if you think that it will help you learn the song. (Pretty soon you probably won’t need to do that, though, because you’ll be getting so good at reading notes!)
